THE POWER OF JESUS BLOOD: Understanding Our Victory Through Christ's Sacrifice

Our eternal future depends upon the blood of Jesus. Why? Because sin has a price, and that price is blood. The blood of Jesus is the only atonement for sin, and when we ask for forgiveness, it is on the basis of His blood shed. This is the heart of the Gospel—it proves His death and brings our freedom!

Satan cringes when we truly understand the blood of Jesus. He takes advantage of our ignorance about its power. Understanding this reality is life-changing and absolutely necessary in order to live a victorious spiritual life. Many in the church live defeated lives simply because they never learned to engage the preciousness and power that is found in the blood of Jesus for their lives.

We Overcome by the Blood of the Lamb

As Revelation 12:11 tells us: "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony."

The Gospel wouldn't exist without Jesus' bloodshed. It represents the finished work of the cross. Blood is a bodily fluid that delivers life-sustaining substances, but spiritually, blood contains much more than you may know. Blood contains DNA as it also contains spiritual DNA. Jesus was born of a virgin specifically to prevent sin from being in His blood.  His blood had to perfect blood which it was because Jesus being the Christ, or Messiah (being fully God and fully human) carries the blood of Almighty God, YAHWEH.  You must learn to engage the blood of Jesus in your everyday living.

Life is in the Blood

Leviticus 17:11 states: "For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life."

Life is synonymous with blood—blood represents life. The first sacrifice in the Bible was conducted by God Himself in Genesis 3:21, where after Adam and Eve sinned and were ashamed of their nakedness, they attempted to cover themselves with fig leaves. But God provided them clothing made from animal skins, shedding blood for the first sin.

This shows God's mercy and grace in covering their sin and shame, foreshadowing how the cross takes away our sin and shame. It is essential to understand that all spiritual altars are places of blood because they are places of sacrifice and worship—innocent blood shed. This is what the cross of calvary was, an altar. An altar is a meeting place for man and God, it is a place where two realms intertwine.  It is a power station connecting heaven and earth.

Blood is Power

The blood of Jesus is the saving power that brings about forgiveness of sin. There is no other substitute. Without the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Christianity does not and cannot exist. Without the blood of Jesus, we are powerless. Blood powers altars. The more precious the blood poured out on the altar, the more powerful the divine exchanges will be. Since Jesus is God incarnate (in flesh) no greater sacrifice exists.  The blood of Jesus is the legal system that breaks every hold of evil ordinances and covenants that speak against humanity. It is a system of compliance for spiritual powers speaking against you and I. John 19:33-34 describes how a soldier pierced Jesus' side, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. This flow signified that He was dead, and that salvation alone would now flow through Him, signifying the New Covenant.

The Blood Seals the Covenant

In Matthew 26:27-28, Jesus says: "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

The shedding of Jesus' blood sealed the new covenant of eternal life between unholy man and Holy God. Because Jesus was God incarnate, He was sinless, and only His blood qualifies to completely fulfill the righteous requirement of the Law of Moses. His blood settles all legal matters of Satan's accusations against us in the courts of Heaven.

Hebrews 9:13-14 tells us: "The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!"

Blood Speaks

The blood either speaks mercy on behalf of the saints or judgment on behalf of the unbeliever and Satan. The testimony of the blood speaks mercy on the believer’s behalf—it is a voice that speaks to both the Judge and our adversary Satan. This blood speaks that our legal cases have been dismissed and judged.

Hebrews 12:24 refers to "the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel."

When innocent blood is shed, it cries out, as Abel's blood did in Genesis 4. But there are key differences between Abel's blood and Jesus' blood:

  1. Abel's blood was shed against his will, while Jesus' blood was shed according to His will
  2. Abel's blood was sprinkled on earth, while Jesus' blood was sprinkled on earth and in Heaven
  3. Abel's blood cried out for vengeance, while Jesus' blood cries out for mercy

The Blood of Jesus is a Weapon

Heaven has an arsenal of weapons for us, as Jeremiah 50:25 indicates: "The Lord has opened his arsenal and brought out the weapons of his wrath."

The blood of Jesus is one of our most powerful weapons, released to us at the cross. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. These spiritual weapons are meant for us to use throughout our earthly lives in the battlefield of day-to-day living.

What you fail to protect will be stolen from you, as the devil is a thief. Cover yourself, your family, your destiny, your career, all your possessions, etc. routinely in the blood of Jesus. Satan and his cohorts fear the blood of Jesus, as do all agents of darkness.

The Blood of Jesus Covers (Protection)

In Exodus 12, we see how the Israelites were instructed to place the blood of a lamb on their doorposts so that the angel of death would "pass over" their homes. This blood served as protection from destruction.  How much more will the blood of Jesus provide spiritual covering (protection and preservation) for you who believe?

Hebrews 8:6 states:  But in fact, the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

The Blood of Jesus is an Instrument of Mercy

1 Peter 1:18-19 tells us: "For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect."

Blood is used as a ransom—the payment made to release someone from captivity. It is the payment made to preserve life. Blood is currency in the spiritual realm; it contains purchasing power. The blood of Jesus is overpayment—there are no payments it cannot satisfy! It is more than sufficient.

Through the blood of Jesus:

  1. We are reconciled: Colossians 1:19-20 says, "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." Reconciliation brings sinners to oneness with Jesus Christ.
  2. We are purified: 1 John 1:7 tells us, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." Purification is the removal of sin and impurity, part of the ongoing process of sanctification.
  3. We are justified: Romans 5:9 says, "Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!"
  4. We are redeemed: Ephesians 1:7 reads:  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
  5. We are saved: Revelation 1:5 states: and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,

When a child of God invokes the blood, he or she disappears from the sin, as Jesus instantly stands in our place on our behalf. We authorize Jesus to stand in our place against Satan's accusations, which then cannot and will never stand.

The price of His love is His blood. The power and preciousness of this wonderful blood is all about the reconciling, purifying, justifying, redeeming, and saving work of this priceless blood.

Thank You Jesus!
